The Chinese visa system offers two different kinds of journalism visa depending on the length of stay intended by the journalist and the nature of their employment.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Both J Visas require the following information to be handed in at your nearest Chinese embassy, consulate or (in some countries)official visa processing center. If you are working for a major news organization, these are documents that they need to prepare:

1. Completed visa application form.

2. One recent passport-size photograph with white or blue background.

3. Original, signed passport (with at least six months before expiration).

4. Evidence of previous Chinese visa (if you have previously received a Chinese visa).

5. Money for visa application fee.

Note: Application forms for visas and authentication or notarization can usually all be downloaded from the websites of the Chinese Embassy and Consulate General in your country, or collected from the visa section in person.

· J1 VISA FOR LONG-TERM JOURNALISTS

This is issued to resident foreign journalists working for foreign news organizations, and intending to stay for over 180 days.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are requested to contact the Press Office of the nearest Chinese Embassy directly. In addition to the general requirements outlined at the beginning of this section, applicants should provide:

1. A written application to the Information Department directly or through the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate.

2. A profile of the media organization concerned.

3. The name, gender, age,nationality, resumé, and city where the reporter is to be based, and outline of the capacity in which they shall be working.

4. Professional credentials.

VALIDITY

Up to 90 days for single entry.


Remember that ‘validity’ just means how long you have to attemptto enter China on that visa from the day it is supplied, not how long you can actually spend in the country.

VISA EXTENTION

Yes, you can make extend your stay in Mainland China.


WORKING PERMISSION

With this visa, you can obtain job in Mainland China.

· J2 VISA FOR SHORT-TERM JOURNALISTS

Issued to foreign journalists who intend to visit China to report for a period of up to 180 days.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are requested to contact the Press Office of the nearest Chinese Embassy directly. In addition to the general requirements outlined at the beginning of this section, applicants should provide:

1. A letter of application for covering news in China signed by the head of the foreign media organization,with detailed schedule of work in China including a list of names of visiting reporter(s), date of arrival and departure, locations to be visited and subject of news coverage.

2. An invitation letter by any interviewees or relevant authorities.

3. The applicant’s passport,copies of professional journalist credentials and contact information.

4. Completed Equipment Declaration Form if the reporter(s) intend(s) to bring their own filming or reporting equipment to China.

VALIDITY

Up to 90 days for single entry.
